What are the ‘TCP Mode’ Connections?

When connecting to the Purchase-VPN network using the OpenVPN client you will be presented with the choice to connect to a ‘TCP mode’ server. The difference is which underlying Internet protocol is used for the connection i.e. TCP or UDP.

You should always attempt first to connect using the normal server and not the ‘TCP mode’ connection as UDP is faster, however we offer the ‘TCP mode’ connection for instances when the underlying Internet connection is not stable or you are positioned behind a very restrictive firewall which is blocking UDP and therefor have no choice. Please note that both protocols are equally secure.
